Workers usually get seven days off and most shops close for three days. According to the lunar calendar, Chinese New Year is observed on a different date every year, ranging from January 21 to February 20. The Chinese New Year has a rich history that spans thousands of years and is full of customs and mythology. The celebration originated in prehistoric agricultural societies where people marked the beginning of a new agricultural cycle by celebrating the end of winter and the arrival of spring.
